Amritsar Tourist Attractions

 

It is considered to be the pilgrimage place for Sikhs and hence remains crowded all over the year. The holy city of Punjab has many tourist attractions in Amritsar, India. The streets remain crowded and you will find a lively atmosphere throughout the day.

 

The name of the city is derived from Harmindar Sahib and it means Nectar Lake. When you get down to the train station, you will easily get auto rickshaws that would take you to these tourist attractions in Amritsar like Golden Temple and other local markets.

 

Some car rental companies are also available for the same purpose.


The Golden Temple


It was built by Guru Ram Das in early times and is the most important pilgrimage for Sikhs all over the world. It is also known as Harmindar Sahib and has a center dome made of pure gold all over.

 

It holds the first place in the list of Amritsar tourist attractions. Not only Sikhs, people from all religions and various parts of the world visit Amritsar just to see this Golden Temple.

 

It also has a dining hall where a Bhandara or Langar is organized throughout the day. When you visit Amritsar, this Langar is a must to taste and you cannot afford to miss it. There can be many tourist attractions in Amritsar but without visiting the Golden Temple, your journey would be incomplete.


Some Other Places to Visit


Amritsar tourist attractions include many other places like JalliaWala Bagh, Ram Tirath Temple and Rambagh Garden.

 

The JalliaWala Bagh is located just at a few minutes’ walk from The Golden Temple. It was built by Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1961 as a memorial for all those people who were killed mercilessly by British Army.

 

Still today the bullet holes can be seen on the walls of this place.

 

Last but not the least, in the list of Amritsar tourist attractions, is the Wagah Border.

 

At a distance of around 30 kilometers from Amritsar is the border between Indian and Pakistan.

 

Every day before sunset or you can say in evening, army people in their formal dress up open the gates of this border and have a handshake of friendship or peace with each other. You will thousands of people gathered across cheering for their countries and pride of their nation.

 

You will get regular buses from Amritsar to get to this place and back to the city after the event.
